Daar houd ik mij bij voorkeur niet mee bezig. Baltasar Garzón is daar beter in. Margaret Thatcher heeft thans daadwerkelijk haar politieke einde over zich afgeroepen. Daartoe citeer ik het NRC van gisteren: Thatcher roept op tot vrijlating van Pinochet. Het Europees Parlement heeft, na een stemming gisteren, er bij de Spaanse regering op aangedrongen Groot-Brittannië om uitlevering te verzoeken van de ex-dictator. Hier sta ik volledig achter. Ik kan mij de situatie in 1982 nog volledig herinneren. Kort voor de aldaar te houden wereldkampioenschappen voetbal bevond ik mij in Madrid. In die tijd vond de strijd plaats om "Las Malvinas". Thatcher had toen de woede van de gehele Spaanstalige wereld over zich heen geroepen. De acties van de Argentijnse kolonels waren echter niet goed te praten. Militair-strategisch heeft Thatcher die zaak in die tijd goed aangepakt. Bob van Aalst heeft mij zijn persoonlijke ervaringen met het kolonelsregime verteld in de tijd dat hij daar directeur was van Philips Argentinië. Tegenstanders van de kolonels werden opgepakt en kregen een gratis vlucht aangeboden. Op drieduizend meter hoogte mochten zij dan van 'de heren' uit het vliegtuig stappen. Zonder parachute overigens. Nochtans zijn wij nu zestien jaar verder en is er in Argentinië een democratisch gekozen president aan het roer gekomen. Hij is enige tijd geleden nog door Diana bezocht, zoals je weet. Zij gaf daarbij een lichtend voorbeeld. De heer Menem mag immers niet verantwoordelijk worden gehouden voor de wandaden van zijn voorgangers. Op dezelfde wijze als jij en ik niet verantwoordelijk zijn voor de handelingen van hen die soms in onze naam hebben gehandeld zonder mandaat. Nochtans lijkt de 'iron lady' zich ook nog met mijn persoonlijke aangelegenheden te hebben bemoeid. In ieder geval heeft zij nog regelmatig contact met John Major. Naar mijn idee heeft hij Diana's testament laten vervalsen vanwege onze Europees georiënteerde toekomstvisie. Daar is 'Maggie' het klaarblijkelijk ook nog niet mee eens. Dit onderwerp heb ik gisteren nog aan de orde gesteld tijdens mijn bezoek aan de RAI. Ik heb daar gesproken met de heer Ing. Max Busch uit Zevenaar. Max was Districtsgouverneur van het multiple district 110BZ in het jaar 1994/1995. Ik heb zijn laatste optreden nog meegemaakt tijdens de districtsconventie in Deventer. Hij heeft toen zijn functie overgedragen aan de heer Jan Mol uit HARDERWIJK. Het was de historische bowlingavond waarop ik - geïnspireerd door mijn gesprek met een Zutphense magistrate - op het eind van de wedstrijd drie strikes gooide en daarmee het hoogste aantal punten scoorde van het gehele gezelschap. Aangezien het in die tijd usance was dat de hoofdprijs naar de gouvernor of past gouvernor ging heeft het organisatorisch comité besloten de prijs aan Max te geven. Daar heb ik hem gisteravond nog aan herinnerd. Ook heb ik hem in kennis gesteld van mijn geplande familiebedrijf in Stratford. Dat geldt ook voor de heer Kajit "KJ" Habananda. Uiteraard heb ik met hem kennisgemaakt. Voornamelijk in verband met de vele borden met het opschrift Kajit "KJ" Habananda for PRESIDENT. Hierop draagt hij een paarse stropdas. Ik heb hem laten weten dat dat zonder meer geleid moet hebben tot zijn uitverkiezing tot president van deze wereldwijde organisatie - met 1,54 miljoen leden - tijdens de laatstgehouden Conventie te Birmingham. Ik heb 'KJ' uitgelegd dat mijn bezoek aan die conventie helaas geen doorgang heeft kunnen vinden ten gevolge van het plotselinge overlijden van Diana. Ook de heer Frits van Wesemael heb ik nog even de hand geschud. Frits was DG in het seizoen 1996/1997. Ik heb hem nog verzocht mij behulpzaam te zijn bij de overschrijving naar de LC Stratford. Dat durfde hij toen echter niet aan. Reden waarom ik op 28 april dit initiatief zelf heb aangekondigd. Ik haal uit die tijd mijn Letters aan: Weekly Report 17. Stratford-upon-Avon, 28 April 1997. Dear Diana, This week has been very significant. I start with my diary. Monday, 21-04-1997. In the evening I went to Earls Court Gym and was politely attended by an American boy, called Robert. You will know him without any doubt. He was very concerned and advised me to take good care of myself. The photograph in the Fitness Assessment Room attracted my attention: a lady in red and purple with a gentleman in orange and pink was coached by a lady on a bike. Tuesday, 22-04-1997. A very significant day to me, as you know. First I went to Christie's to see if it would be possible to auction my pen in order to raise funds to finance my plans. I spoke with Mr David Lancaster, who told me that this pen would be worthwhile to auction after having signed an important agreement with it. I told him that I would get to work for it. During the conversation I was watched by a nice young lady who's father in law appeared to have been the director of Instituto Cervantes in London three years ago. I showed her the Christmas card of El Presidente del Gobierno and she affirmed that the signature was of Ana Botella, Spain's First Lady after Doña Sofía.

About 2'o clock I delivered your Christmas present at the main gate of KENSINGTON PALACE. The collaboration of your security officers was excellent! I explained them everything and told them that you are completely informed and I want to keep it that way. By the way: I enjoyed the changing of the guards at BP. I had the most central position before the main gate and also here the collaboration of the security officers was excellent after I had showed them the brochure of the Government Game Wednesday, 23-04-1997. Had a good conversation at ETON COLLEGE with Mr. Sgt. David Sharp of the Security Office of KENSINGTON PALACE. We agreed. I gave him my confidence. House Watermans, Harpsden Way, Henley-on-Thames. I discussed my plans with Mr. Ross Tristen, Professor and member of the board of Warwick Management Institute. We agreed how important comunication is in business and managers have to understand each other in English, Spanish and Dutch. That would be the main ingredients for a joint Dutch-British-Spanish business training programme. The programme could be financed by the Education Minister of the EU Edith Cresson that Mr Tristen had met in Lyon some months ago together with prince Filip of Belgium. He advised me to discuss the plan with Mr Robert Dyson of Warwick University. It seems to me a terrific idea. I will go there as soon as possible. I also went to The Angel on the Bridge and spoke with a Spanish girl from Granada about the Christmas Card of Ana Botella. The restaurant "The old white heart" does not exist anymore. There I was passed by a Lady in Red. Thursday, 24-04-1997 - Henley-on-Thames. Back again to The Angel on the Bridge where I was attended by Zahn flower from South-Africa. Mr Alan Lister, from the region of Abingdon, Wine Cellar Manager of The Brewery, promised me to show me around after having returned from Stratford, Mrs Tristen showed me a beautiful poem of Rudyard Kipling that I will never forget: IF. This morning I gave my Business Plan to Mrs Margaret Bushill, secretary of Professor Carnall of Henley Management College and I made an appointment with Mr Robert Dyson at Warwick University. After having had dinner at The Angel on the Bridge I noticed a golden Mercedes D280 at the entrance of Harpsden Way with number NBL IX, what means to me "Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, 28 September."

This may produce some nuissance at KP according to Mr Sharp, but I write this as a feedback in communication processes like I learned in my management training. Sgt. Sharp had no inconvenience that I continue keeping you informed and told me that an official letter from KENSINGTON PALACE was to be expected. I am writing from an old and cheap guesthouse in Warwick. This afternoon I visited Walcote House. Mr Maxwell brought me there, "Linda" showed me around and Mrs Heppel brought me back to Warwick. Visited a little Swedish restaurant in front of a shop called "The Tao". I read page 9 of the Daily Mail. At 17.30 I visited Mr Robert G. Dyson, Associate Chair for International Programmes and Professor of Operational Research of Warwick Business School of the University of Warwick at Coventry. He is involved in a so called European Management Project, a pilot project with Essec France, Universities of Mannheim and Navarra. I told him my objective of that visit; a bilingual (English-Spanish) or trilingual (English-Spanish-Dutch) Management Course in which also the Universidad Complutense de Madrid can be invited. I gave him my business plan and we agreed to keep each other informed. It was a short but pleasant conversation. He understood very well that next month to me means a month of more heavy personal decisions. I also told him that I report directly to KP. With Mrs Heppell I discussed that from now on teambuilding will be the main objective. I consider Mr Dyson as the first member of the team. I received a brochure about Sandringham that I intended to visit April 29, but I respect the express wishes of KP-security and hope to get there another time unless I get special permission. Saturday, 26-04-1997. I need a task-force consisting of representatives of possible participating parties from the Benelux, Spain and Britain. In the Netherlands I will discuss this issue with the organizers of the Government Game. Today first I visited Kenilworth Castle and had there a good conversation. Afterwards I made a "village walk" through Royal Leamington Spa; after having visited the "Green Man" at Kenilworth, Route: Woodcote Road - Northumberland Rd - Lillington Avenue - HEEMSTEDE Rd - Valley Rd - Wellington Rd - Leicester Street - Rosefield Street - Jephson Gardens - Parade and back to the guesthouse where I spoke with "Stephany". I had two glasses of Red Wine at Nelson's bar where a visitor told his story about a visitor with green hair. I told him about my experiences with the lady in Red and Purple. I hope this will not cause any nuissance. The business will come up now. There is no way back, or I must Die! And I won't! I read the story in The Mirror on page 3. Sunday, 27-04-1997. This has been a very special day. I received my First Holy Comunion in the Anglican Church of St. Mary's in Warwick. I had a place next to the Master of the Hospital of Robert Earl of Leicester, Mr. B. Rhodes. After the service I had a conversation with him and he told me that his hospital was the favourite of Queen Elizabeth. He introduced me to the priest and invited me to visit his "hospital". A signal of hospitality that I greatly will accept. Afterwards I visited Warwick Castle. First I went to the Kingmaker.

In the guide of the castle I underlined some significant remarks: The Wars of the Roses took place from 1450 to 1471 in the time of Richard Neville, the 'Kingmaker'. "The Wars of the Roses, which began in the early 1450s and ended with the battle of Bosworth in 1485, were a prolonged struggle for supremacy between the Houses of York and Lancaster". The image in wax of Richard Neville is shown in a photograph. He has exactly the same family features as my friend Van Munster, like Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha (1737) in the State Dining Room has an extraordinary resemblance with Queen Elizabeth II. So I called my friend now. Furthermore I read "In March 1471, Edward landed at Ravenspur from the Low Countries, etc." The Kingmaker's final act was on 13 April. Furthermore I read about Francis Greville, who became the 8th Lord Brooke in 1727. "Brooke" in Dutch is "Van den Broek". Lord Brooke had made his organ in Leamington Spa. Visiting the State Dining Room I observed that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip visited the castle on the 8th of November 1996 with local authorities as part of their tour of Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon. In the Red Drawing Room I noticed the picture of Sir Philips Sydney (1554-1586). Fighting the Spanish in Holland, he was shot in the side at the Battle of Zutphen, Residence of the Family Van der Heyden van Baak van Doornenburg. In the Library I saw the figure of Guy Lord Brooke, who left Eton in 1901. He became Earl of Warwick in 1924. In the Card Room I saw the wax figure of Charles Spencer Churchill, the 9th Duke of Marlborough and owner of BLENHEIM PALACE.

There I spoke with a girl - who was very well dressed - about the Kingmaker. The Boudoir contains a social scene, especially with the Marlborough House set, a group gathered around Edward, Prince of Wales.

The Bedroom showed Consuelo, Duchess of Marlborough - a member of the Vanderbilt family -, the Marquess of Blandford, son of the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough and Edward, the Prince of Wales and latter King Edward VII. On 4.30 pm the window of his bedroom was set very wide open to let the new Fresh Air in!

After having read that Kenilworth Castle had been the stronghold of Simon de Montfort (Van der Heyden was Drost of Montfort) I went to to the Peacock Garden and there I realized completely the message of the Mysterious Present of October last year.

After the visit I went to The Crown Hotel to have dinner and a Flowers Original. The waiter gave me a number: 14. It reminded me of the 14 orange and 14 red royal roses that ICB sent on the 28th of August last year. I went to Stratford and had a glass of red wine in the Inn "Rose and Crown", former Green Dragon. During my way-back to Warwick I listened to "Martin Guerre" and heard "My name is Dutilh". The attorneys of Nauta-Dutilh in Amsterdam defended my interests as from April 1992. Mr Jan Peter Nauta, a hispanistic colleague of mine, has a great responsibility in the Congress of Spanish on the 27th of September.

Monday, 28-04-1997. Stratford-upon-Avon, Anne Hathaway's Cottage, Tea Garden. I discussed my plan with Mr Philip Homer, Economic Development Manager of the District Council of Stratford. He will hand over the Business Plan to the chairman of the District Council, Mrs Sheila Ribbins. We agreed that Stratford as location is interesting because of the cultural aspects of the name and commercial managers have to develop and work out the business plan in good collaboration with.... and parties with appropriate expertise such as Warwick Business School. Before ending this letter I met with the guide who guided the Stratford Tour on 9th August last year.

I hope I did my preparatives to the satisfaction of all parties concerned and hope to receive a favourable reply very soon. With sincere and deep esteem." Ik zie dat ik heb verzuimd te melden dat ik mijn missie in Stratford heb beëindigd in de plaatselijke herberg waar de Lions bijeenkomen. Ik heb mij daar bekendgemaakt aan de herbergier en van hem de naam en het telefoonnummer van hun president gekregen.

Ik heb echter nog geen contact met hem opgenomen in afwachting van het officiële bericht dat ik uit KP zou ontvangen in september. Dan ga ik nu terug naar gisteravond. Bijgaand ontvang je informatie terzake. De presentatie van Jan Terlouw, zijn dochter Pauline en Marjolein Bakker was indrukwekkend. Jan kan trots zijn op zijn fijnbesnaarde dochter. 'KJ' gaf in zijn speech het grote belang aan van de organisatie voor de stabiliteit in de wereld. Ik denk ook dat deze groep mensen - all over the world - een belangrijke functie kunnen vervullen in de toekomst vanwege hun positiviteit. KJ vestigde de aandacht op de begrippen harmonie, Fellowship, Opportunity, Care en Commitment, Understanding en Service. In die volgorde. Daarbij streepte hij het grote belang aan van deelname aan de organisatie door jongeren. Ik ontving het Baakbericht 155 met de paarse brochure Ondernemen in Strategisch Perspectief met de vertrouwde slogans gericht aan Instituto Cervantes Holding Dank hiervoor. Ik denk dat we dat programma maar samen moeten organiseren voor onze beide doelgroepen. Een goede mailing is eveneens een goed communicatiemiddel. Zeker wanneer je anderen daarbij ook aan het woord laat. Ik denk daarbij aan een Utrechtse hoogleraar in de Franse taal. Zijn naam ben ik vergeten (Plessen - 9-8-2003). Ondergeschoffelde problemen komen bovengronds door de bemoeienissen van Drs T. Breuker te Groningen. Hij zal voor jou wellicht ook nog een deksel losmaken, uit Liefde! Ik geloof er N.I.E.T.S. van dat jij met mij van mening verschilt. Wat mijn bezittingen betreft neem ik mij voor na het weekend met de makelaar te gaan praten. Ik reken er dan op dat jij de Eikenhorst in de holding hebt ondergebracht. Dan kunnen we er op 1 november in! Dit weekend ga ik weer naar de Keizer Karelstad. Kedeng, kedeng. P.S.
